This project was inspired by the current working artist Leslie DeRose, She creates unique negative space images of bicycles over maps and relics unique to the location. She combines painting and collage to reflect different locations and points of interest.
The PowerPoint contains photos of her work along with student examples. This project encourages students to reflect and express the essence of a place they would like to travel to. It guides them to understand how artists use the elements and principles of art to capture the feeling of an experience. They learn how to see and draw negative space as well as positive space. They explore creating different shades and values of color in paint.
